In the 1930 World Series, the reigning champions, the Philadelphia Athletics, faced off against the National League's St. Louis Cardinals. The Athletics emerged victorious, winning the series 4-2 in six games. Philadelphia's ace pitchers, Lefty Grove and George Earnshaw, each secured two wins. In Game 5, Earnshaw pitched seven scoreless innings, but a no-decision resulted as Grove relieved him in the eighth and claimed the win following Jimmie Foxx's ninth-inning, two-run homer, which proved to be the game's only scoring.
